Chamber Choir
The Chamber Choir focuses on classical, baroque, and other music from our deep Lutheran and Christian heritage. We generally sing for the 11 am service, and we rehearse 90 minutes every Sunday immediately after the 11am service. We all plan to show up every Sunday, and practice some during the week. If someone has to miss a practice, we email the director at least a week ahead of time. We are currently a smaller choir because we all work hard together to continue to learn as musicians, and to keep an equal balance between each part and throughout the choir.
The choir wishes to do more challenging, a cappella music; works toward creating one blended voice as a whole; and has been working a lot on dramatic dynamics, clear diction, and clean cut-offs at the end of a phrase. Since we do not have a regular accompanist, we all must be able to read music and have at least some sight-reading abilities. If this seems like the kind of choir you would like to be a part of and are able to make a commitment to, please contact the director, Sophie Kindschuh, kind0881@pacificu.edu. She would love to hear your voice (not an audition!) to see your range and where you can fit into the choir.
Men's Vocal Chamber Ensemble
The men’s vocal chamber ensemble enjoys fellowship and singing a variety of Christian music from barbershop to gospel and other men’s choir styles. For more information, please contact Glenn Ludtke, glennludtke@comcast.net, or Gary Olmon through the church office, 503-288-6174. All are welcome.
Concerts and Cantatas
Augustana worship choirs and instrumentalists combine gifts to present family-friendly concerts and larger choral works like a Christmas story cantata. The Christmas cantata “Lead Me Back to Bethlehem” was presented in December as part of the 2nd annual holiday concert, which also included other instrumental music, children’s groups, and carol sing-a-long for audience participation.
Coming in 2013. . .
Bell Choir--A new Bell Choir may be forming. For more information, please contact Director Glenn Ludtke, glennludtke@comcast.net.
Children’s Choir--There is interest in forming a new K-12 children’s choir in our near future! If you are interested, please contact Glenn Ludtke, glennludtke@comcast.net. All are welcome!
In addition to the musical offerings at weekly Sunday services, Augustana has vocal and instrumental choirs and ensembles that participate in the music ministry throughout the calendar year.
