Habitat for Humanity Build Day - October 18th
A dozen members of Augustana joined with 30 other people from three area churches to help construct a Habitat for Humanity home (tri-plex) in SE Portland on Saturday, Oct. 18th. A fun and rewarding time was had by eveyone.
Pisos trip to Mexico: July 26th -August 2nd
The fifth Augustana trip to the Tultitian Community center outside Mexico City was pretty much a family affair. The Augustana family; those who helped with the breakfasts, the garage sale, the wine tasting, the barbeque and other donations helped 15 families in Mexico. These families have much better sanitary condtions because they now have concrete floors - pisos. One of these families had a daughter who just had both ear and eye surgery so they really appreciated having a more sanitary living environment.
Gaudencio, Ruth, Paco, Yvette and Pablo, the people who we work with from Manos Ayuda (Helping Hands) are like a family to those of us who made the trip. They fed us the most incredible lunches, worked side-by-side with us and with the families, and Pablo (their 3-year-old nephew) just stole our hearts.
We had three generations of Su Hanset's and Rick Surratt's family working on this trip. Paula Foat, Ricky Foat, Chelsea Howlan, Shannon Kluss; daughter and grandchildren. Nick Alto, Allen Brown, Denise Gates, Cynthis Ingebretson and Glen Jacobs all felt like adopted members of the Surratt/ Hanset family.
A special treat from our hosts was a surprise visit to some Pyramids on Sunday.
Summer in the City - August 3rd
Our annual outdoor party for the Augustana Neighborhood was again a fabulous affair. More than 200 members, friends and neighborhood enjoyed the barbeque, music and games. A fun-filled time was had by all.
Summer Picnic - June 29th
Members and friends of Augustana enjoyed a delightful afternoon at the annual Augustana Summer Picnic. We were entertained by the Portland Community Wind Band, hula-hooped, played tug-o-war, tossed water balloons and ate some great picnic food. The music accompanying the slide show is the Portland Community Wind Band.
